A system of products from Mapei’s Resin and Cementitious Flooring line have been utilised in the refurbishment of the new Red Hot Buffet World restaurant in Nottingham. Mapei’s cementitious flooring system Ultratop was ideal for the renovation of the old night club building, transforming the existing concrete and ply wood substrates. Mapei’s Primer SN, a two-component epoxy primer, followed by a selection of colours from Mapei’s Ultratop range were used, including: Standard, Rust Red, Light Grey, White and Anthracite. The system was then completed using Mapei’s Mapecrete Stain Protection and Mapelux Lucida, a double-reticulation, high-strength, shiny wax. This complete system ensured that the 2,000m2 cementitious flooring, which was installed throughout the dining areas, reception, toilets and back of house, was finished to an extremely high standard.

A Degafloor RB system was specified for the kitchen of a new build Marie Curie Hospice through a collaborative approach to project management.

National Flooring successfully completed a high end flooring refurbishment project for Marie Curie Hospice by providing a structured approach to the selection process which involved a variety of stakeholders all of whom had influence over the final product selection. Degafloor FB system, a textured floor finish, was specified to provide adequate slip resistance in the kitchen environment at a new build Marie Curie Hospice. The client was aware that the texture of the system would mean adapting their cleaning regime and National Flooring arranged for the team at Marie Curie to view another installation near the local area to view the floor in a live kitchen environment including the clean down process at the venue. The project showcased the company’s ability to provide high levels of customer service at every stage of the development and manage a process where a number of stakeholders are involved. A single point of contact was maintained throughout the tender design and construction, which helped to coordinate all the stakeholders and manage the process more efficiently. A project manager was assigned to the job and attended all pre contract meetings to ensure that the installation ran efficiently. All deliveries were completed in one drop and all waste was bought back to the company warehouse to be recycled as appropriate. Willmott Dixon organised an open day for the local community to view the new build and raise money for the hospice.

In Dairygold’s Cheese Grater Area Kemtile laid 600 square metres of BASF seamless resin flooring, installed stainless steel kerbs and drains.

The Dairygold and Haslington Cheese Co Ltd in Crewe process a wide range of shredded, grated, cubed, sliced and diced cheeses. In the Cheese Grater Area Kemtile constructed an underground drainage system, a new grease trap interceptor, laid 600 square metres of BASF seamless resin flooring and installed stainless steel kerbs and drains. Kemtile created new falls to the floors with a concrete screed, installed ceiling panels six metres off the finished floor level and created a steel mezzanine area as a bay for cheese pallets to be loaded onto wagons for distribution. This area was constructed complete with loading docks and dock levellers. Door openings were made to join the new building to the existing one and the white wall panelling was matched to the existing cladding where the new building joins the original. Kemtile also created a new entrance to the site with pathways, gates, gardens and line markings for parking.

John Lord installed their Uragard HT polyurethane resin flooring system at Europe’s largest bakery – Warburtons Tuscany Park facility in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The Uragard HT Range has been specially designed to provide hygienic, chemical resistant, slip resistant and easy to clean floor finishes. To achieve the optimum curing characteristics, this latest polyurethane technology requires certain environment conditions including moderate temperatures. Programme considerations however, dictated that the floor finish must commence installation prior to the majority of the bakery walls being erected. Faced with this situation, and witht emperatures regularly dipping below freezing, John Lord approached the problem in a novel way by utilising giant tents providing contained storage, mixing and installation areas. The inflatable tents had artificial heat ducted in providing the ideal installation conditions without the influences of the open surroundings.

Despite these constraints, our contracts expertise of working on in-situ projects within the food industry proved invaluable to the client.

For a refurbishment programme at Adams Food Ingredients Ltd the company selected a range of flooring products from Resdev Ltd for part of its central UK site at Leek in Staffordshire.

Combining the highest standards of hygiene with operational excellence and health and safety compliance is of vital importance to Adams Food Ingredients Ltd, part of the Irish Dairy Board (IDB). The company manufactures a growing range of functional ingredients for food manufacturers, with three speciality dry blending plants. In the beta grinder area, the original substrate took the shape of glazed paver blocks, which required careful gritblasting and grinding to achieve the correct mechanical key for the flooring system. This was followed by the application of Resdev’s Pumaprime TC primer, designed to bond epoxy screed compositions, absorbing into the resin screed as well as the substrate. The floor was then treated using Resdev’s Pumadur RT, a heavy duty polyurethane floor system offering advanced abrasion and chemical resistance and creating a level, aesthetically pleasing surface with good slip resistance and excellent cleanability. Additional products applied included Pumadur TF, a matt polyurethane coating which was used to coat the concrete upstands in the room, providing a continuous, seamless finish onto vertical surfaces. In the bag off area, following remedial work to the substrate and the application of Pumaprime TC primer, Resdev’s Pumaflow, a medium to heavy duty flow applied epoxy resin flooring system was applied.

To accommodate the popular mini-cheddars brand, United Biscuits was required to convert an existing warehouse in Harlesdon, Middlesex into a packaging facility

Requiring a new, hygienic and easy-to-clean floor, Ryebrook Resins, having previously successfully carried out a small trial project, was awarded the contract based partly on their ability to resurface the entire 3,500m in just six days. The resulting FOODSAFE seamless, tile red coloured floor delivers the impact and load resistance required for a packaging facility, as well as being low maintenance and having anti-slip properties. Preparation first required breaking-out the previous resin floor using bobcat planers, before shot-blasting the area and hand-diamond grinding the edges. Disused bolt holes and localised damage to the existing concrete slab were made good with Ryebrook epoxy resin mortars and grouts. Ryebrook’s Ryeflor HF, a heavy duty and impervious polyurethane floor screed, was laid throughout at a nominal 6mm. To facilitate hygiene and cleaning a radius coved skirting detail was formed at perimeter walls using a vertical grade polyurethane resin mortar, Ryeflor WR. Expansion joints were brought through from the sub-floor and filled with Ryexpand V, flexible epoxy jointing compound.

Resuthane TG69 polyurethane screed was applied in the main processing area, for a leading lamb abattoir Hammer International at Newport, Gwent. The floor is subject to frequent, heavy duty pressure washing as well as high impact, production usage. Resuthane TG69 provides an anti-slip finish and at 9mm thickness can be pressure washed with hot water and steam cleaned in addition to outstanding chemical resistance. The inherent properties of Resuthane made the product ideal for the Hammer application. Resuthane is used throughout the food industry in heavy duty applications including breweries, meat production, bakeries and dairies.

Refurbishment of the flooring at a Mailway food packaging required a degree of slip resistance because of the nature of the company’s activities the floor is constantly being cleaned which could lead to possible problems with slipping.

Ultrasyntec Ltd was asked to refurbish the flooring at a Mailway food packaging facility in Bradford. The company provides contract packing solutions including custom food and retail packaging design. Because of the nature of the company’s activities the new floor required a degree of slip resistance as the floor is constantly being cleaned which could lead to possible problems with slipping.

Zenith Pola Flooring Services provided a hygienic, slip resistant and durable floor for local food processor.

Food processor, the Deli Company, required a seamless and hygienic flooring system at their newly build premises in Milton Keynes. Zenith Pola Flooring Services Ltd completed the 1,800 sqm project, working around the problems created when operating in cold ambient temperatures for the much of the time. Firstly the new concete slab was shotblasted, by FeRFA Members The Preparation Group, to provide a good mechanical for the finish to bond to. The flooring needed to hygienic and slip-resistant especially in the wet so Resdev Pumadur HF, a heavy duty polyurethane floor screed, was chosen. A team of four Zenith Pola Flooring operatives laid the system at 6mm and all expansion joints were reinstated by saw-cutting and backfilled using Pumexpand P. Resin flooring provided a highly durable, high abrasion and impact resistant floor which was not only met the hygiene requirements for a food processing plant but could perform in a wet environment and give excellent wet slip resistance but could withstand hard wheeled traffic, abrasion and fairly high levels of impact.
