Temple seeks new flooring

The Central Gurdwara Manchester approached The National Flooring Company for advice on a durable and clean resin floor finish to its busy kitchen area.

The Gurdwara (House of God) is a Sikh Temple which is both a spiritual place of worship as well as a cultural learning centre for Sikhs and their children. Along with a daily religious programme, there are also learning classes for both young and old held during the week. Central Gurdwara Manchester offer nourishment daily by providing meals to all visitors to the temple. A cooking area that is clean and hygienic is essential for a busy environment. After meetings between the decision makers and The National Flooring Company the Degafloor FB system was chosen to coat the current concrete substrate due to its seamless, textured system that offers a hygienic slip resistant finish. As with all temples shoes are not permitted within the building so it was agreed that an extra seal coat would be added onto the system so the floor was not so abrasive on the feet. The temple could only spare one day for the installation having removed all the kitchen equipment, so the programme was tight and it was vital that the installation was effectively planned and managed to ensure the refurbishment did not exceed this. To make sure The National Flooring Company respected the temples religion and beliefs the installation teams were asked to wear head scarfs and enter the temple without their shoes. However for health and safety reasons, safety boots were worn in the kitchen environment whilst works were undertaken. Jas Singh of the Sikh Temple said “From the initial contact made with National Flooring, I found everyone to be polite, courteous and professional; this continued throughout the installation. The floor blends in well with our kitchen and fulfils our requirements. It would be a pleasure to work with National Flooring again if the need arose. I would have no hesitation recommending National Flooring”.
