IFT contracted to provide screeding at Boclair Academy

Anderson Floor Warming & Renewables and Integrated Flooring Technologies brought together over 70 years of experience when working on the underfloor heating and screeding package at the new Boclair Academy, Bearsden. Each of these companies has extensive experience working on education projects throughout Scotland and the North of England.

Anderson Floor Warming Limited laid approximately 4,700sqm of underfloor heating within the lower ground floor where the underfloor heating pipes were tie-wired directly to the structural rebar reinforcement.

A further 4,500sqm of underfloor heating onto 50mm EPS100 insulation was installed to the ground and first floors. IFT applied a 70mm Cemfloor liquid cement screed to encapsulate the pipes. This product provides more thermal insulation compared to traditional sand cement screed which leads to a better u value. Cemfloor screeds are very responsive to underfloor heating due to the fact that they can be laid in very thin sections and have a high thermal conductivity of up to 2.9w/mk.

In addition to the solid floors, Anderson Floor Warming & Renewables also laid approximately 1,000sqm of underfloor heating in sprung sports floors using pipes fitted into aluminium heat diffusion plates.

The £40.9m project is being delivered by the Council in partnership with the SCAPE Construction Framework and contractor Wates Construction Limited / McLaughlin & Harvey Construction Limited. The new two-storey building delivers a state-of-the-art learning environment for 1,050 pupils and features a large entrance atrium, flexible learning zones, performance spaces and dining areas.

Both Anderson Floor Warming & IFT are delighted to have had key involvement in the production of this new state-of-the-art educational building.
