Resin flooring stands test of time at Billingsgate

Bespoke flooring at the UK’s largest inland fish market has reached its six year milestone thanks to specialist resin systems supplier, Resin Surfaces Limited (RSL).

Served by almost every port in the country, an average of 25,000 tonnes of fish and fish products are sold through merchants at Billingsgate Market in Canary Wharf each year. RSL supplied a Resuthane TG69 in a Forest Green colour on the ground floor of the self-contained Market complex. Covering 13 acres, the ground floor of the building comprises a large trading hall with 98 stands and 30 shops, as well as a number of individual cold rooms and an 800 tonne freezer store maintained at -26C. RSL’s leading hygienic Resuthane TG69 system was chosen because it is a food-safe, seamless floor which combines outstanding wearing and anti-slip properties in both wet and dry conditions. Martin Macleod, Superintendent at Billingsgate, who oversaw the project, said: “We needed a rapid solution that was not only fit for purpose but wouldn’t impact on the day to day operations at the Market and could stand the test of time. Six years later, I can confidently say RSL met the brief brilliantly.” Martin Wroe, commercial director at RSL explained: “Customers, especially within the food industry, require a flooring solution that will stand the test of demanding environments. We worked closely with The Corporation of London and the installation team to ensure we could provide the best specification for such an iconic landmark. “Resuthane has quickly become one of our most popular products, and projects like this provide a real testament as to why it’s becoming more widely used in the food and drinks sector.”
