New Monarch Airlines Hanger at Birmingham Airport

Central Flooring Services and Altro Floors have provided Monarch Airlines with a skydrol-resistant resin floor laid, and precisely line-marked, within a tight eight week deadline.

Monarch Airline’s new hanger facility, at 12,000m2, is large enough to house two of their Airbus B747-400s -the largest aeroplanes that can land at Birmingham Airport. It is so large that the aeroplanes can pull in one side, turn and exit back out of the other door. The high-profile project required a new high-density concrete slab to be installed to cope with the weight and structural forces from the aeroplanes. FeRFA members PPC prepared the surface by shotblasting and Altro Floors specified Altroproof sole (DPM) and Altrotect Plus (FeRFA type 3) epoxy coating. Central Flooring Services installed the skydrol resistant resin flooring, 4,000 lm of expansion joints and precise line markings to guide the planes and provide safe walkways – all within the tight eight week schedule. Main Contractor John Sisk was delighted with the quality of the work and wish to work with Central Flooring Services on future projects. They were particular impressed with the company’s environmental commitment.
