Sika and IRL provide a solid base for Van and Truck Service Centre

For the Newmarket branch of a Mercedes van and truck dealership, a hard-wearing, durable and easy to clean floor was required for the service bay which could offer long-term performance and meet the daily demands of a busy service pit area.

One of four branches in East Anglia, Orwell Truck and Van specialises in the sale and maintenance of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles. Appointed to refurbish the concrete floor of the aftermarket service and workshop area, specialist contractor IRL turned to the extensive product range and technical expertise of Sika. For the service area, a coating was required that would deliver easy clean and anti-slip properties – whilst providing a fast and simple application. Developed to offer an outstanding surface finish and exceptional protection against heavy loading, abrasion and chemical exposure – SikaFloor proved ideal for the busy workshop. The existing concrete slab was prepared by a combination of dust free vacuum shot blasting, diamond grinding and STR light mechanical abrading containing all dust and debris in sealed containers. After applying the highly resistant Sikafloor 161 primer, IRL applied two coats of solvent-free, high-build epoxy Sikafloor 264 to create an aesthetically pleasing finish. Two coats of line marking resin was then applied to the pit surrounds. Extremely tough and durable and with a life expectancy to match, Sika’s flooring systems are designed to fulfil an almost endless combination of functional and aesthetic requirements and meet all industry requirements for mechanical and chemical resistance, impermeability and fire resistance. Having met the client’s limited timeframe and performance requirements, the Sika specification delivered a hard-wearing flooring system that has guaranteed outstanding durability and longevity.
