IRL make train maintenance bays good as new

IRL Group used a FeRFA type 8 heavy duty resin flooring for the East Midlands Train’s Neville Hill Depot power car bays

The Neville Hill Train Maintenance Depot at Osmondthorpe in Leeds has been at the centre of railway life for many decades helping to keep the East Midlands rolling stock fully functional. The depot even has a power car named after it, which thirty years on is still in operation on the main line route to London with its original name plates still intact, and it continues to be maintained at Neville Hill depot. Since then the depot has required refurbishment and IRL Group were called in to complete works to the power car bay which plays such an important role in the maintenance of the stock. This project required a FeRFA type 8 heavy duty resin flooring to cope with the traffic and impact to be found in this hardworking environment. First the floor area needed to be vacuum shot blasted. All redundant fixings and services then had to be removed. A levels survey was carried out in a 1.0m grid and spot marked. Once the floor was ready a heavy duty epoxy screed was laid at an average thickness of 10mm and sealed with contrasting colours. The work was completed during a seven day shutdown period, successfully and on time.
