Apprentices train at Resdev’s brand new centre

Resdev hosted a three day training module for the 14th group of FeRFA In Situ Resin Flooring apprentices at its newly opened Resin Technology Centre in Elland.

The aim of the three days is to give the apprentices plenty of practical hands-on experience and the group thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to apply quartz materials and gain practice on their trowel work to take those skills into the workplace. On the final day, FeRFA trainer, Terry Foxley gave the learners a review of the course as a whole and guidance on the next steps in the apprentices’ progress towards achieving their NVQ level 2 Diplomas. The group will take the final module on Flowable screeds in April.

Resdev provided all the materials for the sessions and the apprentice worked in pairs to perfect their techniques in screeding and coving on purpose built wooden frames. The assistance FeRFA receives from its members in supporting these schemes as well as the CITB, who provide grant funding, helps to provide very cost effective training for FeRFA contractors. The candidates in this group are:

Andrew Siddons (Central Flooring), Thomas Singleton (John Lord), Warren Woodward & Lee Youds (Mike Thelwell Flooring Ltd), Ben Gladman & Tom Hogg-Beck (Polydeck Resins) and Aeron Lumley (Protective Coating Systems UK Ltd, Lloyd Davies (Page Industrial Flooring) and Stephen Cox. The assistance FeRFA receives from its members in supporting these schemes as well as the CITB, who provide grant funding, helps to provide very cost effective training for FeRFA contractors.

A small solution to a big problem…

The Degafill permanent pothole repair solution is robust and fast curing to provide the perfect solution.

Potholes are a serious concern for many a car park across the UK and since they are increasing not only in quantity, but also in size, Degafloor has recently introduced a re-packaged Pothole Repair System to make it more cost effective and more widely available to all car parks large and small that might benefit from a proven, sustainable, and permanent solution.

The unique fast curing and ultra robust properties of Degafill have been a huge success within the parking and road maintenance industry. However, the original larger unit size for the system didn’t allow for cost effective distribution by courier, so this has been addressed to enable the system to be sold and shipped at a much lower overall cost. There is an added benefit too in that the new kit size is smaller than the original (22.8kg versus 27.2kg) resulting in less waste.

Not only will the new kit size allow for more cost effective distribution via courier networks, it will also pave the way for the product to be sold to individual customers, in addition to our well established approved installer network. This means that even more potholes can now be repaired in a simple, cost effective and permanent manner. Better still, each repair is ready to receive full traffic loads within just 20-30 minutes of installation.

RSL’s Ivy Wroe receives Responsible Capitalism Award

Ivy Wroe, Managing Director of Resin Surfaces Limited (RSL) has been awarded the prestigious SME Dahrendorf Responsible Capitalism Award for her role in developing the company’s sustainable product range.

The awards are instituted by FIRST – the multidisciplinary International Affairs organisation – and honour international business leaders who have excelled in both commercial success and social responsibility.

Entrants were judged on their responsible running of a company, their consistent demonstration of social responsibility in line with commercial success, and the interaction of the business with both the environment and its community.

Ms Wroe’s award success is founded on RSL’s strategic growth and sustainable product innovation, which she has driven despite recent economic challenges.

Today, the specialist resin floor and wall finishes manufacturer offers the largest range of solvent-free, water-based products than any other UK company.

These include the market-leading Resuthane Polyurethane resin screed system and Resucryl WB coatings – both water-based low VOC ranges that are less harmful during both the manufacturing and application processes.

Ivy was presented with her award by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid at a special ceremony held at Lancaster House in London. It was attended by over 300 prominent business leaders, parliamentarians and ambassadors. She commented: “As a relatively small manufacturer, it’s often difficult to keep up with product innovation, let alone drive it. But at RSL, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

“We’ve are now being seen as industry innovators within the resin systems marketplace. Being naturally concerned for the environment, environmental impact and sustainability is key to our decision making process.

“Needless to say, we are delighted to receive such prominent recognition with this award. It’s testament to the hard work of the RSL team who – in partnership with our suppliers – have achieved such enviable green credentials. So a big thank you to everyone involved. Together we’ve proven that you can purposefully, passionately and profitably run a business – making a difference and leaving a legacy.”

Tekfloor celebrates its Third Birthday

Tekfloor has just celebrated its third anniversary, since it was set up by Steve Foster and Andy Vincent to distribute nationally to floor screed layers.

This month Tekfloor celebrated its third birthday and looks back to the occasion three years ago when Steve Foster and Andy Vincent looked at a vast and completely empty warehouse in Rotherham, wondering how they could ever fill such a space. Less than six months later they were looking for a bigger shed!

Tekfloor’s goal was to be the best national distributor to floor screed layers by specialising in only “floor zone” products and materials at a competitive price, whilst offering the best level of customer service in terms of reliable deliveries, even at short notice, and excellent product technical support.

During the first year Tekfloor’s growth was far greater than expected. Turnover doubled the original business plan and staff numbers grew rapidly, now greater than 40. A second distribution centre soon became necessary and was located near Bedford to serve London and the South.

Over the three years Tekfloor has become a stockist and distributor for many of the major screed and flooring brands as well as large quantities of commodity products such as cement. The Tekcem brand has also been added, including a range of products and materials, many of which are developed in Tekfloor’s own Laboratory. Although the focus remains firmly on screed layers, the floor finishes market is also being serviced with an extensive range of levellers and thin screeds as well as primers and repair materials etc.

Acquiring an in house fleet, together with FORs approval, was the next major step to ensure a range of vehicles are available to service the bespoke needs of Tekfloor customers where over 60% require next day delivery with timed slots. The Tekfloor team work hard to ensure a customer is never let down, achieving 100% is and always will be the only standard that is good enough.

The future for Tekfloor looks —— interesting!
