The 14th group of resin apprentices finished their formal training this month with their final session on flowable screeds, this included a day of classroom tuition with Terry Foxley, the FeRFA Trainer, followed by a second day of practical sessions.
FeRFA member, Instarmac, supplied all the materials and hosted the training at their Tamworth facility. PFT Central were on hand to guide the apprentices through each step of the process of mixing and laying pumped screeds. The group were shown the correct setting up procedure of the M-tec mixing pump, preparation of the floor area, setting levels, how to carry out flow tests and safe operation of the pump. As well as getting hands-on experience with the pump, which is an essential part of the scheme, the apprentices gained invaluable advice on laying techniques. The feedback from the group was excellent and they enjoyed the experience of handling pumped screeds and using specialist pumping equipment. Candidates in this group are: Andrew Siddons (Central Flooring), Thomas Singleton (John Lord), Warren Woodward & Lee Youds (Mike Thelwell Flooring Ltd), Ben Gladman & Tom Hogg-Beck (Polydeck Resins), Aeron Lumley (Protective Coating Systems UK Ltd, Lloyd Davies (Page Industrial Flooring) and Stephen Cox This last module completes the apprentices formal training and they will continue to gain practical experience under supervision with their own companies to prepare for their on-site assessments. Successful candidates will be awarded their full NVQ Diploma Level 2 at FeRFA’s Awards Event in November.
