INDEPENDENT CONSULTANCY AND TESTING SERVICES
FeRFA does not directly undertake the physical investigation of site problems but it does operate a complaints procedure and any complaint involving a member company should be addressed to the FeRFA Office.
The following is a list of independent companies who may be able to assist.

Aston Services is a company of consulting material engineers providing a complete range of independent and confidential consulting, research, development and materials testing services to the civil engineering and construction industries. Based in Aston Science Park, Aston University, Birmingham it has access to laboratory facilities, expertise and specialised knowledge derived from research in a variety of disciplines. Aston Services is approved to carry out specific United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) tests.
The company has provided expert witness services, performed failure investigations and abrasion testing services since 1982. Indeed the BS 8204: Part 2 Classification of abrasion resistance is based on the research carried out by Dr M.Sadegzadeh ( Aston University ) and R. Chaplin (C&CA).
We provide a range of expert services including on-site testing for the flooring industry as follows:
- Forensic Petrographical investigation of floor failures and disputes
- Abrasion resistance testing and survey to BS 8204
- Slip/skid resistance testing and survey to BS 8204
- BRE Screed testing and survey to BS 8204
- Schmidt hammer surveys
- Anti-static test to BS 2050 and BS 5958
Its specialist team of Scientists, Chartered Chemists and Engineers are able to undertake a wide range of on-site and laboratory testing inspection services, ranging from microscopic analysis of samples for ASR, carbonation, HAC, chloride, sulphate attack and reinforcement corrosion through to full scale testing /appraisal of civil engineering structures. In addition the company specialises in developing procedures for assessing performance and durability of materials.

Face Consultants specialise in the design and construction of warehouse and industrial floors. With over 25 years of international experience, they are uniquely qualified to provide advice to building owners and users in logistics, food, distribution, warehousing and other manufacturing sectors. Face Consultants also provide a comprehensive range of surveying, testing, diagnostic and condition monitoring services for assessing existing floors.
JOHN ASHWORTH & PARTNERS - Dr John Ashworth

John Ashworth & Partners Ltd has been established for 25 years and is a fully equipped laboratory and on-site investigation. Service to the flooring industry and related areas including slip-testing. We investigate problems with respect to all types of polymeric flooring – epoxies, polyurethanes, resin-cement systems etc, right through from on-site investigation to analysis, written report, photographs and appear as expert witness in court if litigation ensues.
THE MCINTYRE CONSULTANCY - Sean McIntyre

The McIntyre Consultancy provides professional quantity surveying, project management and expert technical advice, with a specific focus on the resin flooring and coatings industry. Our services are available to Clients, Manufacturers, Main Contractors, Subcontractors, Developers and Architects, who need specialist advice on their flooring projects. With our network of experienced construction professionals we are able to offer our services across the UK and Ireland and have often worked in Europe and further afield on major projects.

Radlett Consultants provide failure investigation and expert witness services in respect of floor construction. They also investigate personal injury and industrial accidents when the floor surface may be a factor.
