KYRAN BRACKEN CONFIRMED TO HOST 2018 AWARDS DINNER

The FeRFA Awards Dinner will be a glittering event in the Park Suite and an ideal opportunity to entertain customers, reward staff or enjoy a pre-Christmas get together with friends.

Our host for the Awards evening is former England rugby player Kyran Bracken.
Kyran played rugby for England for 10 years, gaining 50 caps. After retiring Kyran swapped his rugby shirt for all-in-one lycra and agreed to appear on ITV’s Dancing on Ice. He went on to win the contest. The spray tan and sparkly outfits clearly made their mark – Kyran’s passion for ice skating continues. But he’s also stayed close to rugby as a coach at Leicester.

The 2018 FeRFA Best Practice Awards will be presented after dinner and we will be honouring this year’s Apprentice Graduates with the presentation of their NVQ diplomas and certificates. FeRFA graduation is supported by CITB.

You can then dance the evening away or enjoy a drink in the Park Suite Bar.

The cost for the dinner is £75 (plus VAT) with discounts available for tables of 10+.
Dress: Black Tie

If you would like to attend the AGM and/or the Awards Dinner, please complete this booking form and email to secretariat@ferfa.org.uk.

OTHER NEWS

CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES LOOK TO INCREASE WORKFORCE DESPITE CAUTIOUS EXPECTATIONS OF A WEAKENING IN OUTPUT

Results of the first Build UK State of Trade survey for 2018 show that contractors have become more cautious over their prospects. In the short term a modest recovery in workload was anticipated during the second quarter after a first quarter that was disputed by adverse weather conditions, although a general weakening in workload was anticipated for the next twelve months.

The survey, which was undertaken with Glenigan, found that a balance of 9% of contractors expect their workloads to rise in 2018 Q2, but 27% of firms expect their output to fall over the next 12 months.

BUILD UK ACCIDENT SURVEY 2018 – LIVE NOW

The 2017/18 BUILD UK Accident Survey is now live for FeRFA CONTRACTOR MEMBERS to submit accident statistics for the last 12 months from 1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018 via the following link:

Accident Survey 2017/18

The deadline for responses to this year’s survey is Friday 1 September 2018 – but please don’t wait until the deadline to complete it as we will send regular reminders until it is completed.
It should only take a few minutes to do, and if you have had no reportable accidents it will be just seconds as all you need to give is number of employees for that period, then click NO to accidents and it is done.

Please note that providing annual accident statistics is a requirement of membership for contractors.

A good response to the survey is vital as the information can be used to demonstrate to clients and others that the safety record of members is better than non-members. It can also help to identify accident trends in order to produce guidance which can reduce the risk of similar incidents in future.

CSCS ANNOUNCE PRICE RISE

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) will be increasing the cost of a card to £36 (this includes VAT) with effect from 1st September 2018. This increase applies to all cards administered directly by CSCS.

CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry. A CSCS card provides proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.

The last price increase occurred in 2010 but since then costs associated with running the scheme have increased significantly.

Graham Wren, CSCS Chief Executive said: “We have managed to maintain the current card price for the last eight years however inflationary pressure, together with increased costs associated with combatting fraudulent activity, have pushed our costs up to the point where the current price is not sustainable. In addition, with our current contact centre provider CITB having served notice to exit the service contract the CSCS Board have agreed to invest in new technology and systems to ensure the application process is modernised.”
