NEW APPRENTICESHIPS STARTS 21st-22nd MARCH 2018
FeRFA will be starting new Apprenticeships in Resin Flooring, Screeding and Surface Preparation on 21st-22nd March 2018 at the Ibis Hotel in Rugby.
The two-year schemes all lead to an NVQ Level 2 Diploma and the scheme is fully grant funded for CITB registered employers. The current CITB funding for specialist apprenticeship schemes is very advantageous to employers, but as changes are being introduced from April onwards, this may be a good opportunity to put a candidate forward and enable you to recoup CITB levy payments for training. More details on the scheme are available here.
To pre-register for this scheme please download this candidate enrolment form and send back to FeRFA.
If you wish to enrol an apprentice or have any other queries about the schemes on offer and their benefits, please call FeRFA on 07484 075254 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
RESIN 18 TAKE RESIN SCREEDS MODULE
The Resin 18 apprentices spent three days as Resdev's training facility in Elland this month being taught how to lay screeds and create covings. The apprentices had plenty of practical hands-on experience and the group thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to apply quartz materials and gain practice on their trowel work to take those skills into the workplace.
Boud Minerals kindly supplied the quartz mix for the Resdev screed - all of which was donated free of charge. The apprentices were able to perfect their techniques in screeding and coving working on purpose built wooden frames.
Apprentices in this group are Craig Bowden (Britannia Industrial Flooring), Jordan Kingston (Coatech), Meshach Barrow, Daniel Dainty, Joe Walters (John Lord), Philip Rockett, Craig MacGregor (Euro Resin Solutions).
RESIN 19 COMPLETE RESIN SEALS AND COATINGS MODULE
Sika hosted Resin Group 19 in Welwyn Garden City this month for module 11 - resin seals and coating.
FeRFA trainer Terry Foxley led the two day course, covering types, application techniques and substrate preparation. The second day covered testing, slip resistance, waste disposal and environmental considerations, as well as giving the apprentice hands on experience of mixing and applying the materials..
Apprentices in this group are Liam Griffin (Britannia Industrial Flooring Ltd), Neil Garnon (F&G Industrial), Mitchell Cross (Orchid Flooring), Luke Oliver, Adam Oliver, Nicholas Lancaster (Polydeck Resins), Ben Tanner and Stefan Mordecai (TPS360), Gregor Eckert (Veitchi Industrial).

14/15th MARCH START DATE FOR NVQ LEVEL 3 SUPERVISOR TRAINING SCHEME
Do you have skilled employees who are ready to take the next step in progressing their career to supervisory management? FeRFA is able to offer members a Supervisor Training Scheme in conjunction with the Drilling and Sawing Association.
The programme consists of 9 Modules (10 days off-site training) and will cover all courses based on the diploma units towards the NVQ Level 3 qualification. This course meets all the requirements of the Build UK Training Standards for Supervisors. All training will take place at the DSA training facility in Nottingham and course attendance will take place over a three to six month period and will also require a one day on-site assessment. This 10 day course provides the opportunity to raise the general standards of supervisors and to equip them to deal with the increasing documentation and awareness involving safety and other legislation. Food and accommodation is provided for the dates in the schedule where required at no extra cost.

RECYCLING - ARE YOU TAKING PART?
If you are not already submitting your recycling data in 2018 please start doing this now to qualify for the recycling logo within your FeRFA website entry.
It is easy to do using the datasheet (if not using Reconomy) - only two figures are needed per month - total weight collected and total weight recycled or recovered. This is information that should be provided by your waste collector. If it isn't then ask them why not. The spreadsheet includes a graph, automatically generated from your figures - which you can show to prospective clients.
More details on the recycling initiative are here.
