Resin 15 apprentices take their final module at Resdev
The Resin 15 apprentices spent three days as Resdev's training facility in Elland to complete their formal training. The apprentices had plenty of practical hands-on experience and the group thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to apply quartz materials and gain practice on their trowel work to take those skills into the workplace. On the final day, FeRFA trainer, Terry Foxley gave the learners a review of the course as a whole and guidance on the next steps in the apprentices’ progress towards achieving their NVQ level 2 Diplomas.
Boud Minerals kindly supplied the quartz mix for the Resdev screed - all of which was donated free of charge. The apprentices were able to perfect their techniques in screeding and coving working on purpose built wooden frames.
The apprentices in Resin group 15 are: Christopher Davey & Liam King (IRL Group Ltd), Alex Bowers (John Lord & Son Ltd), Paul Ratcliffe, Anthony Rowell and Matthew Haines (Midland Industrial Flooring), Robert Atkins (Central Flooring Services) and Aiden Binns (Hart Site Services Ltd)
Screeding apprentices complete their training at The Preparation Group
Screed 1 apprentices recently spent two days at the training facility of The Preparation Group in Lincoln learning about acoustic and thermal insulation, and underfloor heating systems.
The first part of the training module covered compliance and testing, robust details and installation methods for thermal and acoustic insulation, and was delivered by industry expert Ian Griffiths of Thermal Economics. The main focus of the second session was underfloor heating systems and installation methods from industry specialist Andy Vincent.
This is the final classroom module for this group who will use the skills learnt in the classroom to continue gaining experience in the workplace with their employers. They are due to complete in March 2017 following assessment by the FeRFA industry assessor. This group of apprentices will be the first in the UK to achieve the NVQL2 Insitu Flooring Screeds qualification via an apprenticeship route.
The apprentices in this group are shown in the centre with: (L-R) Andy Vincent (trainer), Michael Gibbs and Thomas Henderson (Trent Construction Services) and Scott Barclay from TPS360 then Ian Griffiths (trainer) of Thermal Economics.
The newest group of FeRFA apprentices take part in their second training sessions at Altro
Group 18 resin flooring apprentices travelled to Altro in Letchworth for modules 4 and 5. This, the second block on their training scheme, provided them with a comprehensive introduction to resin flooring systems and was followed by sessions on work practice and project planning on the second day.
The apprentices were also given time to get familiar with FeRFA's on-line elearning portal and went through the health and safety module with all passing the on-line test.
Apprentices in Resin Group 18 are: Craig Bowden (Britannia Industrial Flooring Ltd), Jordan Kingston (Coatech Ltd), Craig MacGregor and Phillip Rockett (Euro Resin), Meshach Barrow and Daniel Dainty (John Lord & Son Ltd), Michael Hutchinson, Philip Whitehall, Darren Collinson and Robert Rochford (Polydeck Resins Ltd), Lewis Pearce (Ryebrook Resins Flooring Ltd), Brendan Thomas (Stonhard UK Ltd) and Joe Walters (Top Team UK Ltd)
