Southmead Hospital's state of the art facility, the Brunel Building has a seamless, hygienic, hard wearing and decorative floor to match.
Opened in 2014, the Brunel Building is a brand new facility at Southmead Hospital designed to provide a modern and nation-leading medical resource. Being one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the country, Flowcrete and Polydeck Resins were called in to deliver a seamless, hygienic, hard-wearing and decorative floor to over 4,000m2 in various high trafficked areas with 3,600 linear metres of coving topped with stainless steel trim. The contract had an extremely tight deadline and strict working parameters. Flowcrete UK were able to manufacture all of the Peran STB quickly and efficiently to ensure that Polydeck Resins could deliver a first class installation within the eight-week programme. The site was a live working building with restricted access and so as each area was released it had to completed by two specialist teams of 6 layers and 6 sealers working consecutively on site. Due to the cold temperatures, the floors had to be laid in heated zones. The project included 12 operating theatres, two main kitchens, corridors and various side rooms. Hygiene was paramount and also had to be slip resistant and flat to within 1mm tolerances. The materials were all from one batch to maintain a perfect colour match and a uniform these throughout the hospital.
