Mapei's decorative floor system provides the perfect surface to enhance a new neighbourhood restaurant - the Green Room on London's South Bank - created by local social enterprise Coin Street Community Builders and the National Theatre.
The designer Benjamin Marks has created an airy, contemporary space, featuring props and scenery recycled from the National Theatre's shows, which is complemented by the Mapei products used throughout the 150m2 restaurant area. The restaurant is situated next to the Rambert Dance Studios and behind the National Theatre on London's South Bank. Mapei's special hydraulic binder for producing fast-drying screeds, Topcem, was specified as the base product due to its performance. Mapei's Ultratop cementitious floor covering in Anthracite was applied to give the appearance of a polished concrete surface; this was chosen to complement the look of the rest of the restaurant's interior. Mapei's Ultratop Anthracite was also chosen due to its inherent high strength and excellent resistance to abrasion making it ideal for use in high traffic areas. All the joints in the floor were sealed with Mapeflex PU30, a two-component, high-strength, thixotropic epoxy-polyurethane sealant that was coloured to match the anthracite flooring.
