Walthamstow Stadium Development

Total Protection (Great Britain) Ltd bring the history of the Walthamstow Dog Track into the surfaces of the walkways and play area of a new housing development on the former site.

Total Protection (Great Britain) Ltd were awarded these works by the prestigious client Tamdown at the end of July. This is an ongoing large contract for the new housing development, approved by The Mayor of London (at the time) Boris Johnson, for the old Walthamstow Dog Track in Chingford, London, which is due for completion in 2017. 292 new homes will be built in total and will be housed by a mix of tenants (private and council). It will include modern designed maisonettes, apartments and houses ranging from 3 storeys to 9 storeys. There is also the creation of community facilities including a bright and lively designed play area and walkway in the centre of the development. Total Protection laid the colourful and creative numbers to the main walkway including the rubber crumb surfacing inside the play area. The numbered areas were designed to replicate the numbers on the former greyhounds’ racing jackets, bringing the history of the dog track into the heart of the whole scheme. In all a total of 114m2 of rubber ‘Base’, plus varying colours of EPDM Rubber Surface Course were laid plus 971m2 of 6mm ‘Rhine Gold’ Resin Bound Gravel with 41m2 of product to create the coloured numbers.
