Special Machined Products, Sheffield

A new machine shop is given a tough, durable and chemical resistant flooring to meet the needs of a specialist machined parts manufacturer.

Special Machined Products Ltd, part of the SMP Group based in the heart of the traditional Sheffield steel industry, required a tough, impact resistant floor finish for a new machine shop at their site on Bessemer Road. Just under 1500m2 of Remmers Heavy Duty Epoxy screed was installed and sealed with a durable and chemically resistant coat of Epoxy PH resin incorporating industrial aggregates to give long term slip resistance. The new machine shop was created within a redundant building that had previously been used for heavy processing. The concrete slab was severely damaged and required localised repairs up to 30mm thick prior to the resin flooring being installed. The concrete was originally external so had no damp-proof membrane and was also heavily contaminated with oil. Epoxy MT100, a damp and oil tolerant primer was used in 2 coats to seal the substrate prior to installation of the EP Screed system. EP screed is a FeRFA Type 8 finish recommended for very heavy duty environments and is designed to withstand severe levels of load and trafficking.
